We arrived in Anchorage at 11 pm after 12 hours of travel.  Amazingly it was still light outside.  The first two nights, we stayed in Girdwood at the Aleyska resort in the Chugach mountains.  This was a cool place because they had a tram that you could take up to the top of the mountain where there was still snow!  From here, we could see bald eagles flying and the town below.  My mom and I also went on a hike at Virgin Creek Falls. We also took a boat ride out to Portage Glacier and visited the Wildlife Conservation Center. It was very cool, we got to see bear close up.

Next, we went to Soldotna Alaska on the Kenai peninsula. We stay with my Great Uncle and cousin. We visited Kenai beach that had fabulous views of Mount Redoubt and Cook Inlet, saw people fishing in the river and lots of bald eagles. However, I think my favorite thing was playing catch with his 15 year old dog named Dolly. We also visited Homer Alaska, which has a long spit out into the Ocean and was surrounded by mountains.

Lastly, my mom and I drove to Seward. Here, we visited the Seavy summer dog mushing camp where they train their dogs to run the Iditarod. We got pulled in a sled by 14 dogs over bouncing roads and learned all about how they are trained and cared for. Finally, we took an 8 hour cruise where we saw glaciers calving, whales and lots of birds among other beautiful creatures and sites.

It was truly a trip to remember.
